Let me make a few suggestions about how to help children change their life style and head towards better health and happiness.

1-  Start with a visit to the pediatrician to rule out any of the rare, but possible, diseases that cause obesity.




2- The whole family can and should help. Keep the cabinets and refrigerator stocked with healthy–rather than junk–food and snacks. Nearly every overweight child in one study reported they thought their excess weight could be attributed to snacking.

3- Sports are a fun way to lose weight. But not all sports will help you lose weight so finding a sport that makes you sweat is the key. Here are a few great sports that will make you sweat off all those milkshakes.

  • Basketball
  • Tennis
  • Gymnastics
  • Hockey
  • Track & Field
  • Badminton
  • Sit-ups & Push-ups
  • Swimming
Joining a team with a coach is the best way to lose weight because the coach usually makes you work hard and practice vigorous drills and exercises

  
The goal should be a HEALTHY body and the wisdom to be HAPPY with that body. 


4- “YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT.”
Just like adults, children should replace unhealthy foods with a variety of healthy foods, including these:
fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, and whole grains like brown rice
fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products or substitutes, like soy beverages that have added calcium and vitamin D
lean meats, poultry, seafood, beans and peas, soy products, and eggs 

Tips for Parents of Overweight Kids

Be supportive :

Try to  Help your child set specific goals and track his or her progress. Reward successes with praise and hugs. Be positive .
And don't forget to listen to your child's concerns about his or her weight .
Your Childs need support, understanding, and encouragement from caring adults.
Give your overweight child family support .
